About Us

The Savannah Grace Foundation was created to turn a tragic loss into a lasting legacy for our daughter, Savannah Grace Copeland, who died on October 22, 2024.  Savannah and her twin brother had celebrated their 13th birthday just one month earlier.

A spirited 7th grader at Powell Middle School in Tennessee, Savannah dreamed of one day cheering for the University of Tennessee. She embodied the grit, dedication, and contagious spirit that define the program.

Our goal is to give back to the community that gave us so much, in meaningful ways by fostering compassion, and organizing drives and events to promote community involvement.

We sought out the assistance of others in the community who share our passion in honoring Savannah. The foundation will be guided by a dedicated board of seven individuals who will bring their expertise and support to this endeavor.

With heavy hearts and a profound sense of purpose, we have established the Savannah Grace Copeland Foundation to honor our beloved daughter, who passed away on October 22, 2024.

Developing a framework of compassion to help families navigate through their grief in a healthy, connected way.

Why We do it?

We do it to make a difference. Life moves pretty fast and things happen, sometimes out of our control. Grief is powerful emotion and no one should ever have to feel they have to face it alone. Community is important to us. It was important to Savannah. So, to honor and keep her memory alive, we aspire to rebuild the bonds of community that has been weakened over time.

1. Scholarship assistance for students

Cheerleading was a huge part of our daughter’s life. A somewhat introverted girl found opportunities to lead and to shine through cheer. She worked incredibly hard to develop her abilities with the goal of being able to cheer at a competitive level.
We hope to ensure that all young students in the Knoxville area that are of middle school and high school age will have the funds needed to participate in this and other activities.  The Savannah Grace scholarship fund has the goal of assisting anyone whose family cannot afford the needed funds for their student.

2. Support For Grieving Families

Families dealing with significant loss who are raising children dealing with the loss of a sibling or parent find themselves overwhelmed and uninformed on how to recreate the childhood their kid has a right to. Creating an environment in which a child feels free to express him or herself in a safe space where they feel valued is difficult under normal circumstance.  When kids suffer adverse experiences they naturally detach from relationships.
Our goal is to provide opportunities for education for those families so they might feel more empowered to create healthy environments for their loved ones to grow while dealing with their grief.

3. Using Compassion and Empathy to Support Grief

Many kids who have suffered horrific experiences at an early age tend to get detatched from their capacity for caring. It is a common defense mechanism we all use at times to shield us from further emotional pain.
The Savannah Grace foundation seeks to partner with other organizations and professionals for the purposes of studying and developing methods for teaching healthier ways of coping with that pain and to turn those capabilities into a deeper compassion others.  We want to learn ways we can teach our children to connect emotionally with others around them in a meaningful and supportive way Because we believe that you can never go wrong when you err on the side of compassion!
“Compassion is a thread that binds together the deepest centers of life beyond the borders of race, gender, religion, tribe, or creature.”
